Some Real, Sound Advice...

What Are a Husband's Priorities?
Let’s look at some of the things men have told me through the years that I’ve been working with couples.

Men want to be appreciated for what they contribute to the marriage and family.
They don’t want to be taken for granted. Some men have said, “I feel like she only values my paycheck and if I weren’t here anymore, she’d be fine with that.” Everyone likes to feel appreciated, and husbands are no exception. It’s easy to focus on what a spouse isn’t doing, especially if a husband and wife are disagreeing about how much each should help with the kids or around the house. The wise wife will express appreciation for what her husband is currently doing and for the positive qualities he brings to the marriage, even while discussions continue about things she ’d like to see done differently in the future.

Husbands enjoy seeing their wives smile and laugh, and they find smiles and laughter appealing. They do enjoy having their wives appreciate their jokes or stories, but they also like to see their wives just looking happy in general. This doesn’t mean going around with a fake grin and pretending everything is fine when it isn’t. But it does mean keeping a sense of humor in spite of problems and being able to shut the door on worries temporarily when you have some “down time” with your spouse.

Husbands want to feel their wives really care about their welfare and about them on a deep level.
They want their wife to spend time with them, to be concerned about their health, happiness, and well-being.Especially as men age, the feeling that a spouse doesn’t really care about them cuts deeply, even if the husband never shows he’s hurt by the lack of affection and caring. They don’t want to feel the kids always come first and that their preferences and needs are overlooked. In numerous homes, this dynamic is what gets off balance and leads to serious relationship problems. The wife thinks she’s doing what’s best by putting the kids’ needs first, not realizing the husband is as hurt as he is by this. The kids, on the other hand, are then being raised to think their needs should always predominate. As a result, they don’t learn to respect the needs of parents and others sometimes come first.

Husbands want private time with their wives—not just for sex, although that’s important—but also to do activities together on their own.
This is where making time for a “date night out” every week or so is important. Then the husband and wife can see a movie they want to see, uninterrupted by the kids, or have a peaceful meal at a restaurant. They can go bowling or dancing, or get together with friends and keep their identity as an adult couple, not just as parents.I have seen couples in counseling through the years who have decided not to ever leave their kids with a babysitter or go out on their own. Usually, the wife is the one who feels strongly about always putting the kids first. This is always a red flag to me of an unwise course of action in the marriage. I liken this course of action to building a house on the sand—looks good but falls apart easily. A heightened sense of passion between spouses is helped by time alone, “date time,” private time, time for the important part of the relationship that exists beyond the kids to be strengthened and nurtured.

Husbands want a satisfying sex life.
You knew we’d eventually get to sex, didn’t you? So here it is. A marriage without a passionate sex life is lacking a key ingredient that wives all too often underestimate.Yes, I know there are couples who over time stop having sex and yet both partners choose to stay in the marriage, but in many cases, there’s a resulting sense of resignation and dullness in the marriage. The fire or passionate spark that helps a couple to stay together is missing, so there’s often a lack of “life” or energy in the relationship.Wives can argue until they’re blue in the face that sex shouldn’t mean so much to husbands, but the reality is that it usually does have a high priority on the husband’s list. And, yes, it is difficult and challenging to find time and energy for sex when there are children in the house, when you’re exhausted, sleepy, and stressed. But while there may be temporary gaps and reduction in quality of sex because of specific circumstances, sex doesn’t lose its importance to most husbands in the long-run.
This is the one area where I have consistently seen wives underestimate the husband’s needs and the importance of sex to the husband. They may say, “But we’ve been married thirteen years.” Yes, but it’s most likely still important to the husband. Why? Because it feels good, because it makes him feel attractive and desired, because it enhances satisfaction with the marriage, because it can help the husband to feel closer and more connected to his wife, and because it relieves stress. The reality is that a husband who does not have a satisfying sexual relationship with his wife is much more vulnerable to becoming involved with someone else. And often, that “someone else” is not more attractive than the wife, she just conveys to the husband that she thinks he’s attractive, she desires him sexually, she thinks his jokes and stories are funny, and she enjoys spending time with him.

Use these five areas above to open discussion with your husband about how he feels in the marriage and whether his needs are being met. You could show him this article and ask him to indicate what he agrees with, what he disagrees with, and what he would have added.
And that’s one of the keys to marriage success—opening the communication door so that each spouse can share from his or her viewpoint and feel heard by the partner.

Bloggers Busted By Courts

Author(s): Michelle Fabio, Esq.November 2009

While we can be thankful that the right to freedom of speech allows us to share our opinions through blogging, we may not have the luxury of doing so anonymously. Until recently, many bloggers and blog commenters assumed that if they wrote under an alias or anonymity, their comments couldn't be traced to them. In light of recent court rulings though, bloggers should think twice about how they exercise their perceived freedom of speech.

As with many developing areas of law, there is no consensus on how anonymous bloggers should be treated in the legal system. Up until a few months ago, though, most requests to reveal sources of anonymous online writings were denied. Indeed, the Supreme Court had ruled that the right to anonymous free speech was squarely protected by the First Amendment, namely in the 1995 McIntyre v. Ohio Elections Commission decision:
"Protections for anonymous speech are vital to democratic discourse. Allowing dissenters to shield their identities frees them to express critical, minority views…Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority...It thus exemplifies the purpose behind the Bill of Rights, and of the First Amendment in particular: to protect unpopular individuals from retaliation...at the hand of an intolerant society.."Blogger Unmasked in Model Case Despite the 1995 ruling, two recent cases show courts will not always defer to anonymity regarding online communications. In August 2009, we saw the case of Liskula Cohen, a 37-year-old model who found herself being called "skank" and "ho," among other derogatory descriptions, in anonymous blog posts. Cohen decided to sue the blogger for defamation, but before she could do so, she needed to know who to sue. So her attorneys filed a motion to compel Google, operator of the Blogger.com site that housed the blog in question, to reveal the identity of the blog author.

Jesus Is...

Jesus Is
Author: Unknown

He is the First and Last,
The Beginning and the End!
He is the Keeper of Creation
and the Creator of all!
He is the Architect of the universe
and the Manager of all times.

He always was,
He always is,
and He always will be...Unmoved,
Unchanged, Undefeated, and never Undone!

He was bruised and brought healing!
He was pierced and eased pain!
He was persecuted and brought freedom!
He was dead and brought life!
He is risen and brings power!
He reigns and brings Peace!

The world can't understand him,
The armies can't defeat Him,
The schools can't explain Him,
and The leaders can't ignore Him.

Herod couldn't kill Him,
The Pharisees couldn't confuse Him,
The Scribes couldn't silence Him,
The people couldn't hold Him!
Nero couldn't crush Him,
The New Age can't replace Him,
and the world can't explain Him away!

He is light, love, longevity, and Lord.
He is goodness, kindness, gentleness, and God.
He is righteous, mighty, powerful, and pure.
And He is Holy.

His ways are right,
His Word is eternal,
His Will is unchanging,
and His mind is on me.

He is my Savior,
He is my Guide, and
He is my Peace!
He is my Joy,
He is my Comfort,
He is my Lord, and
He rules my life!

I serve Him because
His bond is love,
His burden is light,
and His goal for me is abundant life!

I follow Him because
He is the Wisdom of the wise,
the Power of the powerful,
the Ancient of days,
the Ruler of rulers,
the Leader of leaders,
the Overseer of the overcomers,
and He is to come.

And if that seems impressive to you,
try this for size.
His goal is a relationship with ME!

He will never leave me,
never forsake me,
never mislead me,
never forget me,
never overlook me,
and never cancel my appointment
in His appointment book!

When I fall, He lifts me up!
When I fail, He forgives!
When I am weak, He is strong!
When I am lost, He is the Way!
When I am afraid, He is my courage!

When I stumble, He steadies me!
When I am hurt, He heals me!
When I am broken, He mends me!
When I am blind, He leads me!
When I am hungry, He feeds me!

When I face trials, He is with me!
When I face persecution, He shields me!
When I face problems, He comforts me!
When I face loss, He provides for me!
When I face Death, He carries me Home!

He is everything for everybody everywhere,
and every time, and in every way.
He is God, He is faithful.
I am His, and He is mine!

My Father in heaven can whip
the father of this world.
So, if you're wondering why I feel so secure,
understand this...He said it and that settles it.

God is in control,
I am on His side, and
that means all is well with my soul.
Everyday is a blessing for GOD Is!

“Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” -1 John 5:5

Organic Watchdog Group Takes on Target Store Brands

Target' Corp. is being accused by U.S. organic farming group, The Cornucopia Institute, for alleged misleading consumers into thinking some conventional food items it sells are organic. The institute -- which filed complaints with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's organic program, and Wisconsin and Minnesota officials -- claims corporate agribusiness and major retailers are "blurring the line" between "natural" products and organic food that has been grown, processed and properly certified, according to a report in just-food.com.

Target's nationally advertised Silk soymilk, manufactured by Dean Foods, is at the center of the controversy because the word "organic" appears on the carton Cornucopia asserts that Dean Foods has moved away from organic production.Additionally, Target's Archer Farms private label brand also is under the microscope. Cornucopia claims the brand blurs the line by selling food that is labeled both natural and organic. Aurora Dairy, Target's organic milk supplier, is also accused of "flagrantly violating" federal organic livestock standards.

In 2006, Wal-Mart was accused by the institute of illegally touting non-organic food products as organic, according to the report. "Major food processors have recognized the meteoric rise of the organic industry, and profit potential, and want to create what is in essence 'organic light,' taking advantage of the market cachet but not being willing to do the heavy lifting required to earn the valuable USDA organic seal," said Mark Kastel, senior farm policy analyst at Cornucopia.Officials at Target and Dean Foods could not be reached by Just-food for comment.

Feminism - BOO!!!!

I spent MANY years working a mans profession - reason one is, because I could do it (I suffer from tendinitis in my back for the rest of my life now, even after pain killers and physical therapy)...reason two is, it was always more pay (even though I was always paid at the lowest end of the spectrum for the job) and reason three was, I was a single parent (the plus side was, as my son grew, I was always his mentor, his idol...his topic for reports).

God clearly stated that as women, we are to have our Faith first, our husbands second, our children third and so on. He clearly stated that our first priority is to our home. We make profit for our home, HOME...family. NOT to climb corporate ladders, not to satisfy our addictions or self pamper ourselves to extreme selfishness, but to give out of love what we have been given.

Feminism is a sore spot in me really. As when I was younger, I could really kick butt physically and mentally in the work place as well as my personal life. But...as time has now moved on, I have truly come to value the meaning of being a woman. It has nothing at all to do with having a career, family and the ability to have it all.....women who cling to this really miss out on their true strengths, joys and peace.

Go ahead, search for that rainbow, convince yourself how good feminism is to you, do what ever makes YOU feel safe, successful, etc. One, when you DO decide to have a family, you will either get it, or deny your children what this society has been screaming for (and the headlines blaze it loud and clear), the richest, most successful, most fulfilling (I don't care who you are or the size of your paycheck), there is NOTHING more priceless, then to see the child you raised have morals, standards, a good heart, wisdom, knowledge and self esteem!

Phyllis Schlafly: Feminists Psychoanalyze Themselves Again
The feminists are going through one of their periodic soul-searching psychological examinations of what the women's liberation movement did or did not do for them, and why they are not happy with the result.

Congress Keeps Gold-Plated Health Care... For Themselves

Begin Again

I am sharing this wonderful mailing from Joel Olsteen, as during our time away, the Lord gave me this message MANY times, and thankfully, reminds me again today:

"He who was seated on the throne said, 'I am making everything new!…"(Revelation 21:5, NIV)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
Can you remember the time when you first discovered a big dream in your heart? Maybe you were determined to excel in your career, or excel as a parent; or even excel in your walk with the Lord. You probably started out strong, but maybe things got a little difficult and didn't happen as quickly as you would have liked. At that point many people decide, "Let's just settle here. It's not exactly what we wanted, but at least, it's good enough."

Friend, I want to remind you today that you were made for more than good enough! Maybe things haven't worked out the way you planned, but now is not the time to stop and settle. Now is the time to dig your heals in and begin again. And even if that dream has died—it's time to dream another dream. God has so much for you in your future.

If you've settled in any area of your life, take that first step by declaring, "I am not going to settle for mediocrity. I am made for so much more! Things may be difficult, but I am pressing forward. I'm going to keep believing, and I'm going to make it all the way in to my Promised Land!"

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
"Father in heaven, thank You for this new day. Thank You for the opportunity to begin again. I choose to press forward and keep believing for the dreams and desires You’ve placed in my heart. I trust You today with everything that I am. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Color Me Blue

Recent studies indicate that Americans of all ages are failing to get their daily recommended servings of fruits and veggies -- despite the fact that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can help maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and some cancers (State Indicator Report on Fruits and Vegetables, 2009). Frozen produce, including antioxidant-rich wild blueberries, is a nutritious solution for families looking to make healthy eating more convenient and affordable. Just half a cup of frozen wild blueberries satisfies one fruit serving and is a good source of dietary fiber. The FDA has concluded that frozen produce is just as nutritious as fresh and may even retain its nutritional value longer -- all of which makes frozen an excellent value for consumers wanting to increase their intake while making the most of their food dollar. The Messenger

The Messenger
Author: Bob Perks

“Are you the one?”

I’ve asked myself that question thousands of times through the years.

You see, all of the answers I need in life always come through people. Everyday people I meet along the way.

All the truly important things in life I’ve learned the hard way. God knows I’m a blockhead sometimes, and blockheads need some serious shaking up in order to guide them, give them direction or simply let them know when to get out of the way.

I’ve learned that God sends people to me. Some as a friendly reminder that there are beautiful people who, like flowers along the road way, make the journey easier to travel.

But many unknowingly have a message for me, a story to tell, directions or answers to my prayers.

So, you’ll have to believe me when I tell you this, every time I meet someone I say to myself, “Are you the one?”

Expecting that at any moment anyone can be God’s messenger, I try desperately to pay special attention to who they are and what they have to say.

No, they don’t step in front of me and announce “God has sent me. He told me you are a blockhead and I need to make sure you understand what He wants you to do next!”

I wish it were that easy.

Sometimes people step in and out of my life like on a ride in an elevator or standing in line to buy a cheeseburger. Their smile, frown, comment, or actions often times trigger a story, or confirm I’m on the right path.

Sometimes the most important messages come from the most unlikely sources.

Like today.

I was speaking to a wonderful couple who were sharing their own experiences with hospice. The woman spoke about how peaceful her brother’s death was and told me that she missed him very much. He had passed away less than two years ago.

“He was a tough man, but I would yell at him and he’d listen. I miss yelling at him,” she said.

“I hope that when I’m gone someone will miss me. I think that is the greatest accomplishment in life. To have such an impact on others that, upon your passing, they would feel the emptiness,” I said.

Then, I heard someone say, “You used to be the host on PBS television weren’t you?”

“Yes, I was,” I replied.

“Well, I miss you! You see you’re not there now and someone misses you. You don’t have to die to be missed,” he said.

“Are you the one?” I thought.

Most anyone would think he was a highly unlikely source of God’s guidance. This old man wore a dirty sport coat, heavily stained pants, messy hair tucked under a hat older than I am and generally looked like a homeless man just passing through.

But I know better. This may very well be the one to deliver an important message to me today. I’ve been anxiously waiting for one.

He had the warmest smile hidden slightly by his aged, wrinkled face. He told me how much he had enjoyed watching me on television. I wasn’t listening to what he said. I am uncomfortable with praise. But his eyes spoke volumes to me.

“Do you have a minute?” he asked.

Believing he was about to say something of utmost importance to me I replied, “I have all the time you need, my friend!”

He then reached in one of the two large shopping bags he was carrying. Pulling out a black binder, he went on to show me a plan he developed for the “future growth of our downtown.”

His work was clear and concise. The ideas he had made perfect sense. His handwriting was neat and legible.

Then it hit me. He could have been God Himself standing there with a message to save the world, but because he looked like the least significant, most unlikely source to deliver anything of value, no one would ever pay attention to him.

He was intelligent, bright, organized... but old and poor. If anyone spoke with him at all, it would most likely be out of pity, missing anything of importance he had to say.

They would humor him.

They would ignore him.

They would pass him by, perhaps even avoid him all together.

In doing so they would miss an incredible opportunity to learn something important.

The message was -- “the messenger!”

A Note We Should All Remember....

Through my own spiritual trying, testing and changing, this is one note worthy of posting any where you can see it and be reminded of on a daily basis. Trust me, it WILL change your life!

But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:14-17

Did You Hear About the Proposed Tax For Liking Comfort Foods??

Ok...so that was a NICE way to word it...its a fat tax...plain and simple. Just as they try to tax EVERYTHING we all enjoy, the bottom line is this, if you allow them to dictate what you eat, drink or enjoy, how much more are you willing to give up to them???

The proposed idea is to tax, say...a big mac...ok, you dont eat them every single day, or maybe you DO...its YOUR choice. Their argument is that your weight and inherent health problems from your weight or unhealthy food choices shouldnt be a burden on the government, so they will tax you to make you not want that particular calorie laden food anymore...um, can we say DUH...

What idiocy is going on in this country??? Are we REALLY ok with someone else dictating what we can eat, enjoy or want??? How much more are we going to let them invade our homes??? Are you truly willing to allow someone else tell you what to do, how to do it or when?? There is one word for that, COMMUNISM and our country was NOT founded for those terms, it was founded for FREEDOM!

Call me out here if you want, but dang it, I have been personally responsible for all of my medical debt, not once leaning on insurance OR the government to take care of me, and it is my right to want that damn big mac seven days a week if I want it and there is no person out there, except mc d themselves to tell me whether or not I can have that greasy, calorie laden but delicious burger!

Something I Truly Have Learned...

You know, sometimes we really do have to take steps away from our lives, as they are, what we are doing...and really learn. I had walls built up, I had fears, frustrations, I had a multitude of problems. But something that really worked, I mean, seriously...REALLY worked, was letting everything go and let God be God... even today, as I face an old enemy, as frustrating, as dissappointing, as irritating as the facts are....am I the one in control of it? No...I am only in control of my REACTION to it..thankfully, I have the opportunity right now, this moment...to either dwell on it or let it go and just trust God with it. Take it to Him. Leave it there with Him and let HIM deal with it, as it really let me down in so many ways...but once again, I am not the one in control of it....

When I really let go and let God be God...no one beleived me. Everyone had their opinion and agenda for me (as if they have any right to that)...no one stood by me because they beleived in an impossible. And yes, to the world, it WAS impossible. But do you want to know what happened? GOD DID THE IMPOSSIBLE! I truly believe He did it because I let it all go to Him. I did not do one thing as the world would do and I most definitely stood my ground where people had to respect my decision...God did the impossible THEN, and He reminds me how and when He did so that I can do it again, with this irritating thing I happened upon today....

So, with that said...yes, I carry the guilt of happening upon that thing, as I should..but I have to take it ALL to Him, He really IS here for us, we just have to do it His way...keep that thought in mind yourself and learn from my mistakes ... I am a much happier person today for doing just that :-)
