Walgreen to Offer Fresh Foods/Prepared Meals

Walgreen to Offer Fresh Foods/Prepared Meals in 7,000 Stores According to the IDDBA's newsletter, dairy-deli-bake Digest, Walgreen plans to offer fresh foods and prepared foods to draw "time-starved" shoppers to its stores and compete with traditional supermarkets. The company sees "location" and good value as being the big differentiators. Walgreen is also selling private-label wines at about 1,500 locations and sees this as the next logical step. The company thinks if it could get 50 percent of its customers to shop the meal department one day a week, it would do wonders for its sales. (Source: Bloomberg.com )
